Tanya Rankin: Hi, it`s Tanya Rankin in Williams Lake. My phone has been ringing off the hook for a rental ad, I don’t do rental property management, I do know of the odd rental at times but it was very confusing to me. People were saying to me that one of the properties that I had listed was available for rent. Turns out it was internet fraud, it was posted on Kijiji and Craigslist, they somehow had taken photos from my website and used them to, I guess promote that they were renting this house out. What they did was when you would reply to their ad they would send you back an email and say if you deposit the damage deposit into this bank account, we’ll hold the keys for until we get the paper finalized and you can take possession. Well of course Williams Lake has a very tight rental market and there were tons of people excited about the prospect of renting this property and when they didn’t get the results they expected they drove out to the address and saw my sign there and thought they would probably find out more information by contacting me. That’s how we discovered that it was a fraud, so remember always before you put any money into someone’s bank account off the internet, do your homework and make sure its legit.
